Secondary Schooling Form I to Form IV: Academic Programme.
Emanyata is a NECTA* registered secondary school offering Form I to Form IV education to girls and boys.
Our academic curricular and non-curricular activities support our overall ambitions of:
With 10 subjects on offer, students have chance to study a breadth of topics in Form I and II including languages (kiSwahili and English), mathematics, agriculture, geography, sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and humanities (Civics and History). Agriculture and science classes are supplemented with practical skills development in the garden, on the farm and in the science laboratory.
Remedial learning opportunities and guidance/counselling is available for those who struggled through Primary school. Students can improve their basic literacy and numeracy skills so as not to be left behind in their main-stream classes. Additionally the school has a policy of spoken English inside and outside the classroom and many opportunities for improving a students use and understanding of English languages, such as during our Debate Club. Our library is also a great resource for all students to advanced their understanding on a particular topic or find a quiet place to work on a project or study past-examination papers.
On completion of Form II, with examination results and teachers to help guide them, students decide which of the 7 to 10 curricular subjects they will continue with in Form III and IV. We encourage all students to continue with as many subjects as they are able, particularly the sciences, so as to drive them forward, prepare them for a technologically driven future and avoid introducing unnecessary limits to their aspirations and future academic and employment opportunities.

Pre-Form One - Three Month Transition Programme
The transition from primary to secondary school is a particularly vulnerable time for children to drop out of school.
A limited understanding of English and kiSwahili is a major cause of low performance in Primary School exit exams and for not continuing on to secondary school. Even those that join may struggle from the beginning and fall behind fast, perhaps dropping out in the early stages.
At Emanyata we offer a 3-month transition class from October to December each year called Pre-Form I. It provides a broad introduction to life at a boarding school, introducing students to all subjects they will encounter. But perhaps most critically, it provides an intensive focus on spoken and written language, particularly English and on establishing basic numeracy skills.
Girls and boys equally become confident in their potential to succeed at secondary school and are much more prepared to start the new school year in January ahead of their peers. These students often become informal mentors to those that did not get the extra boost of learning during the transition period.
We highly recommend Pre-Form I for all pastoralist students, whether your child is selected to attend a government secondary school or plans to stay with us at Emanyata. You will see the difference in just 3-months of teacher guided learning.

Our academic curricular and non-curricular activities support our overall ambitions of:
- advancing the English literacy and spoken English of all students to the level of fluency needed to support study in all 10 subjects
- having more girls recognize the real-world benefits of improving their numeracy skills and showing them that a firm grasp of mathematics principles and their application is well within the girls capabilities
- introducing more girls and boys to the sciences, subjects that have the potential to inspire students on to innovative and creative approaches to resolving the sustainability challenges of their community and further enhancing their employment potential.
